The College of Nursing

While looking for topics to blog about, I came across the College of Nursing.  The College of Nursing has celebrated more than 50 years of education, research, practice and service.  It is also nationally ranked with a comprehensive selection of baccalaureate through doctoral programs.  The link to this web page is: academics.uky.edu/ukcon/pub/AboutTheCollege/Pages/default.aspx.
While at the web page, the viewer would find many tabs such as academic programs, about the college, practice/ engagement, events, etc.  Located in the tab named About the College is the history and other information about the college and how it grew into what it is today.

The College of Nursing first opened in the fall of 1960 as a reaction to warnings that the state would soon face a serious shortage of medical caregivers.  Marcia Dake, EdD, RN, was the college's first dean.  She, along with faculty and other deans, built the college on the goal to create an innovative program that would serve as a model to other forward-looking nursing educators and set their sights on becoming one of the top programs in the nation.  In 1971 a woman named Marion McKenna, EdD, RN, succeeded Dr. Dake as dean.  Her priority was to accommodate the rapidly increasing number of students with additional faculty and space.  However, due to budget problems, construction on a new facility didn't begin until 1975.  In 1979 the college finally settled in to its own building.  Uk became a leader again when they began to offer the state's first doctoral program in nursing.

Located across the street from Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Children's Hospital, the six-story building has a well-established and continually growing faculty research program, an active academic faculty and continuing education program.

Information on pages like this one can bring me to other medical topics or health related things to add on to a project later in the semester.  Some questions that come up during research about the College of Nursing are, How much does it cost?  What does someone have to accomplish to become a student at this college?  People searching for information on this topic could most likely find what they are looking for on this site and be able to begin their journey to success in a career that they love.
